Adventures in Colorado ~ Colorado Springs

After being without an RV for four months we were excited to finally have a new coach and we quickly scheduled a trip to Colorado.

We had never been to Colorado so we planned on staying for a month a changing to a new location around every 5 days or so.

We started our trip on June 6th and spent the first 3 days driving to Colorado Springs. Along the way we saw some country that we'd never seen before.

Here is a windmill farm in north west Texas. Please pardon all the dead bugs on the windshield. lol

Here is David and Hercules in a wheat field in western Oklahoma.

Pulled over for a break in Oklahoma.

We finally arrived on June 8th and checked into our campground. Pike's Peak RV Park.

This was a very well run RV park. The staff was very friendly and called us by name. It is a small campground but very clean and in the middle of everything you want to see in Colorado Springs.

Here's Lucky (our RV) parked in our site.

The next day we visited Garden of the Gods.

Garden of the Gods is a must see if you visit Colorado Springs. It's free to enter the park and pets are welcome. Here are just a few sights to be seen:

The day after that we went to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. This is a very interesting "museum" that showcases the dwellings of the Anasazi Indians.

This is an interactive walk through experience.

Later that evening we took a cog train up to Pike's Peak.

The Manitou and Pike's Peak Cog Railway is a train that travels almost 9 miles up to Pike's Peak.

The ride takes about 3 hours round trip and stops at the summit. You disembark and can enjoy the views, shop or have a snack before re-boarding and riding back down.

In June the snow at the summit is still deep.

It was about 34 degrees at the summit when we were there.

14,110 feet above sea level.

Ready to board for the ride back down the mountain.

The next day we decided to drive up to Pike's Peak.

We saw some interesting "wildlife" signs.

Saw some deer.........

And some beautiful views.

On the drive back down we stopped for lunch in a secluded spot and enjoyed this amazing view while we ate.

Our final stop for the day was the Crystal Peak Reservoir.

Tired and a bit sunburned we headed back to camp, had a nice and dinner and turned in for the night.

We spent the next day in camp, resting up and preparing to head out in the morning for our next Colorado destination.

Enjoy this picture of Her's first experience with snow.
